a sneak peak at spring trends…
It was the season again for the Fall annual TableTop Show in New York City. Renowned manufactories and designers from around the globe showcase their latest tabletop creations for the upcoming Spring season.
I found this year’s show very inspiring, with a definite point of view for up and coming design directions. There were glamorous shiny high gloss finishes, lots of gold, ivy vines and the seasons “it” color is clearly Fuschia. The Best in Show included a table designed by Linda O’Keefe at Metropolitan Home Magazine. She updated the classic Royal Crown Derby black and gold “Aves” pattern by introducing decorative bird figurines and a spectacular black feather light fixture; creating the ultimate urban chic dinner party. My favorite element on the table setting are the gold bricks from the Conran Shop used to display the Calvin Klien flatware.
My show favorites included a new collection by artist Jacqueline Cambata who introduced two stunning patterns called Shangri-La and Elephant Shantih manufactured in Limoge France. Her inspiration was the visual storytelling of the 16th century Indian Mughal art.
Metallics continue to be a trend this season with the newer versions having a high Hollywood style shine. Rosenthal introduced the new TAC Gold collection.
Elements found in nature continue to be a trend in tabletop, the newest elements being seen are Ivy Vines and a more upscale approach to Bamboo.
My old friend Stephen Chambers is now the VP of Merchandising for Waterford Wedgewood. Stephen and I met over 15 years ago both doing display tables to raise money for Monterfiore Medical Center. Stephen at the time worked for Willam-Sonoma and I worked for Rosenthal. I’m so proud of the work he is doing now. He found some amazing artifacts that he used to update the Waterford Wedgwood showroom. These are actual Wedgwood shoes

Lastly, Stephen made a mirror with stick on flowers to promote the new Marc Jacobs line which was one of my show personal favorites
